Despite their erratic form, Rohit emphasized the importance of not overburdening them with advice, and allowing them to play freely. Jaiswal has struggled in recent innings, while Gill and Pant have been dismissed early despite promising starts. Rohit remains confident in their abilities, urging a supportive approach.
In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit Sharma has shown strong support for Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant, who have been struggling with inconsistent performances. Despite Jaiswal’s lack of significant scores in the first innings across the Tests in Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane, Rohit emphasized the young opener’s potential, urging him not to burden him with excessive advice.
Rohit highlighted Jaiswal’s talent and said that he should continue to play freely, without overcomplicating his approach. Regarding Gill, the Indian captain reaffirmed his quality and urged the team to back him and allow him to score big runs, pointing out that getting set is the hardest part. He said:
All these boys like Gill, Jaiswal, and Pant are all in the same boat. (They know) what they are capable of doing, we shouldn’t complicate those things. Jaiswal is coming here for the first time. He has already shown what he is capable of. He has so much talent, when you have a guy like him, you don’t want to tamper too much with his mindset. Let him be as free as possible and not overburden him with too many thoughts regarding his batting. He understands his batting more than any one of us and that’s how he has played his cricket.
As for Pant, Rohit dismissed any pressure on the wicketkeeper-batter, asserting that one or two lean matches should not overshadow his recent form in India. Rohit’s message for the trio was clear: trust their capabilities and avoid overloading them with unnecessary suggestions. Rohit also praised Jasprit Bumrah for his self-reliance in managing his game.
