Social Media Reacts as India Snub Naqvi Over Asia Cup Trophy

India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final but did not receive the trophy after refusing to accept it from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi. The ceremony ended without India receiving the trophy or medals. Coach Amol Muzumdar backed the BCCI’s stand, saying India remained champions and had moved on.

As the Indian women’s team celebrated its Asia Cup 2026 triumph, the post-match ceremony in Dubai ended without the champions receiving the trophy. India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final, but PCB chairman and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi’s insistence on presenting the trophy created an impasse. Naqvi arrived at the Dubai International Stadium shortly before the final delivery and wanted to hand over the winners’ trophy himself.

The Indian side did not agree to the arrangement. Discussions followed, with India reportedly suggesting that ACC vice-president Khalid Al Zarooni could conduct the presentation instead. However, the disagreement remained unresolved. The ceremony eventually went ahead without India receiving the trophy or medals. Naqvi presented the runners-up cheque to Sri Lanka, while BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and vice-president Rajeev Shukla stayed away from the stage and spoke with the Indian players.

India head coach Amol Muzumdar backed the BCCI’s position, saying the team stood united and considered the tournament officially over after being crowned champions. He added that the players were proud of their achievement and had already turned their attention towards the Asian Games. The situation closely mirrors last year’s men’s Asia Cup controversy, when India also returned without the trophy after a dispute involving Naqvi.
