Social Media Reacts As Yuvraj Mocks Abhishek Sharma
Yuvraj Singh hilariously teased Abhishek Sharma after his stunning 35-ball century against New Zealand in Wellington. Yuvraj reminded the youngster that he still could not match his legendary 12-ball fifty from the 2007 T20 World Cup. Abhishek responded that scoring 50 in 12 balls is extremely difficult. The opener’s 113, alongside Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, powered India to a six-wicket win.
In the third T20I against New Zealand in Wellington, Abhishek Sharma produced a sensational batting display, smashing a century from just 35 balls to help India secure a six-wicket victory and take the series. The left-handed opener scored his fourth T20I hundred and his first against New Zealand, while also recording the joint-second fastest T20I century by an Indian batter.
His mentor, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, responded with a playful reminder about his own legendary record. Yuvraj joked that despite Abhishek’s explosive knock, he still could not match his 12-ball fifty, achieved during the 2007 T20 World Cup against England when he hit six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad. Abhishek admitted that scoring 50 from 12 deliveries is extremely difficult and said such an innings can only happen occasionally.
Abhishek and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also created history by smashing 118 runs during the first six overs, the highest powerplay score in T20 cricket. They also scored 26 runs in the opening over, a record for a Test-playing nation. Sooryavanshi narrowly missed his third T20I fifty, while Abhishek continued his remarkable form.
Yuvraj later praised both openers, calling them a “devastating combination”, while congratulating India on the series victory. India will face New Zealand in the fourth T20I at Eden Park on October 30.
