In the latest development ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL), former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals. The appointment marks the beginning of his first formal coaching role in the IPL and reunites him with former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who recently took charge as the franchise’s head coach. Yuvraj, a celebrated World Cup winner, represented India in 304 One-Day Internationals, 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals.

He has already helped several Indian cricketers improve their performances, including Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has also sought his guidance during a difficult period in his career. Yuvraj shares a previous connection with Delhi’s franchise. In 2015, when the team was known as Delhi Daredevils, he was signed for Rs 16 crore, becoming the most expensive player in IPL history at that time. He featured in all 14 matches that season.

The franchise’s leadership welcomed his appointment, highlighting his experience, winning mentality and ability to mentor young players. Delhi Capitals will hope his batting expertise and Ganguly’s leadership can help strengthen the squad. Despite reaching the IPL final in 2020, Delhi Capitals have yet to win their maiden title and missed the playoffs in the last two seasons. The management will be looking to change that record in 2027.
