IND vs AUS: Harbhajan Singh Questions Ravichandran Ashwin’s Retirement Decision Amid Series
Harbhajan Singh has questioned Ravichandran Ashwin's thought process after his retirement from international cricket following the third Test between Australia and India at Gabba. Singh is reflecting on Ashwin's decision.
Harbhajan Singh was also surprised by Ashwin’s decision to retire and thinks that he could have played for a few more years. Considering the upcoming Tests in Melbourne and Sydney, which often offer favourable conditions for spinners, Ashwin might have been able to contribute significantly in those matches.
Harbhajan Singh questioned Ravichandran Ashwin’s decision to retire in the middle of the series, believing that Ashwin could have played a game or two in the remaining Tests. Singh felt that Ashwin still had something to contribute before retiring. He said:
It was slightly shocking for me when I heard that because retiring when the series is ongoing is beyond my understanding. He might have got a chance to play in Melbourne and Sydney, and he recently played in Adelaide as well. So I don’t know what the hurry was and what would have been the thought process behind this retirement.
Ashwin played just one game this series, which was the second Test in Adelaide. It was a day-night match with the pink ball. On a pitch that favoured fast bowlers and offered little support for spinners, he returned figures of 1-53.
Harbhajan, although unhappy with Ashwin’s decision to retire mid-series, wished him good luck in his career. He also praised Ashwin for carrying forward India’s spin-bowling legacy through his performances.
