Keeping a desire to play the last test match of his career in his hometown, Shakib Al Hasan will now not be featuring in the first test match against South Africa on 21st October as he failed to travel to Dhaka after being in New York. Dhaka is currently facing political unrest, and Shakib Al Hasan, who was travelling from New York to Dhaka, was delayed during his transit in Dubai on Wednesday. Amid the protests against him in the city, Shakib expressed doubts about returning home. Initially selected for the Test squad, this match was expected to be his farewell game on home soil.

In the statement given, BCB’s national selection panel Gazi Ashraf Hossain said:

We have been informed that Shakib is unavailable for the first Test. He is at the end of his Test career but along with his experience, we still do not have someone of that calibre with both bat and the ball to replace him. However, Hasan Murad has performed consistently in first-class cricket and has been in our system. He will lend balance to our bowling, especially in home conditions. We believe he has the potential to deliver at this level.

Hasan Murad’s Career

With Shakib Al Hasan unavailable for the Test match, Hasan Murad has been called in as the replacement for the All-Rounder. Asian Games last year saw Murad, 23, make his T20I debut for Bangladesh. Since starting his first-class career in 2021, he has impressed with 136 wickets in just 30 matches.
