With the loss against Australia in the 2nd test at Adelaide, India’s star batsman Shubman Gill opened up about the challenges faced by the team, especially while playing with the pink ball. Gill stated that the pink ball, particularly under the lights, was harder to pick compared to the red ball, which the team is more accustomed to.

He admitted that his struggles in the second innings were due to his inability to pick the pink ball, which led to his dismissal. Gill further explained that playing Test cricket in Australia is tough due to the intense nature of the games, particularly the mental challenge of maintaining focus. He said:

The pink ball was harder to pick, especially at night. We’re more accustomed to the red ball. The intensity of Test matches here is what makes touring Australia difficult. The mental aspect is challenging. Maintaining mental intensity is crucial. The pitches can be fast and bouncy. As long as I was batting, I felt good. In the first innings, I let what was happening at the other end affect me. I missed a full ball. In the second, I couldn’t pick the pink ball from hand… couldn’t read it. That’s why I got out.

Reflecting on his past performances, he emphasized the importance of mental resilience and the challenges of facing bowlers who know your strengths and weaknesses. Despite the loss, Gill expressed confidence in India’s fearless approach to Test cricket, which has led them to recent series victories.
