Morne Morkel is in Australia, working with the Indian team during the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He has been given the responsibility of preparing India’s relatively inexperienced bowling attack for the challenges posed by the Australian side. Morkel’s expertise and strategies aim to strengthen the bowlers and equip them to perform effectively against a tough Australian batting lineup in the ongoing series.

Reporters asked Shubman Gill about working with Morne Morkel during training. Gill expressed satisfaction with the bowling coach, noting that Morkel challenges the team through various techniques, helping them sharpen their skills and prepare for tough matches. He said:

He likes to challenge us. How he used to bowl back in his day. We also like to pull his leg to make him bowl.

Shubman Gill shared that the team enjoys working with Morne Morkel and often jokes around with the former South African fast bowler. He expressed happiness about the strong bond and friendly relationship between Morkel and the Indian players.

In September 2024, Morne Morkel became India’s bowling coach. His first role was during the home Test series against Bangladesh. The team’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, recommended Morkel for the position, as they had previously worked together in the IPL.
