IND vs AUS: Ricky Ponting Predicts 3-1 Australia Victory and Warns Rohit’s Return Could Disrupt India’s Plans
Rohit Sharma, who missed the first Test in Australia, is expected to join the Indian team for the second Test in Adelaide. While many experts believe his return will strengthen the squad, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting thinks it could potentially “disrupt” the team's dynamics.
With Rohit unavailable, Jasprit Bumrah will captain India in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, starting on Friday. Bumrah will take charge of the team as they begin the five-match series without their regular captain.
Ricky Ponting, the highest run-scorer in the Border Gavaskar Trophy for Australia, believes that India has the right balance, despite their recent home whitewash against New Zealand. He feels India is well prepared to face Australia, even with Rohit Sharma missing from the team. Ponting is confident that India can compete effectively in the upcoming series. Ponting said:
India will be pretty certain of what team they’re going to play (in Perth). They’ve known for a while that Rohit probably wasn’t going to be here. They’ve probably known for a while that Bumrah was going to be captain. So they’ve probably known what holes they’ve needed to fill. So they’ll be reasonably settled.
India has won the last four Border Gavaskar Trophy series, showing their dominance in recent years. However, Ricky Ponting believes that this time the results might be different and that the outcome may not follow the same pattern as in previous series.
