IND vs AUS: Deep Dasgupta asks Virat Kohli to follow his advice Amid Ongoing Struggles Against the Outside Ball

Deep Dasgupta, a former Indian cricketer, suggested a strategy for Virat Kohli to overcome his struggles in Test cricket. He advised Kohli to set his ego aside and avoid playing the cover drive for the first 20-25 balls, allowing him to settle at the crease and build his innings.

In the ongoing third Test against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane, Kohli once again fell to a delivery outside off stump, a weakness that has troubled him lately. This dismissal in the first innings highlighted the batter’s struggle with similar deliveries, continuing a pattern seen in recent matches against the Australian team.

Deep Dasgupta suggested that Virat Kohli should adjust his approach since things aren’t going well for him. He emphasized that a batter doesn’t need to prove anything but should avoid playing his favorite shots early in the innings to build confidence and regain control over his game. He said:

This is a mental issue, not a technical one. As a player of your stature, it’s important to sometimes play within your boundaries. Everyone knows what you’re capable of—you’ve already proven your greatness over the last 10-15 years. There’s nothing left to prove. But occasionally, you need to focus on staying within your limits. Once you find your rhythm, you can gradually expand those limits.

After India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill early, Virat Kohli came to the crease with hopes of stabilizing the innings. However, he couldn’t make an impact, as Josh Hazelwood dismissed him quickly, leaving the team in deeper trouble at the start of their innings.
