For the upcoming Test series against India, England might be without key players Ben Stokes and Brydon Carse due to injuries. Stokes, recovering from hamstring surgery after suffering two muscle tears within six months, has not played since December. England’s summer begins with a Test against Zimbabwe on May 22, followed by a five-match series against India starting June 20.

Durham coach Ryan Campbell provided an update, stating that Stokes is making good progress but emphasized that no risks will be taken regarding his return. Stokes has played just nine County Championship matches since 2017 due to international commitments and injuries. Despite his fitness concerns, Stokes remains committed, training daily and even lifting weights a day after surgery.

Meanwhile, Brydon Carse is also recovering from a foot injury that has troubled him for over a year. Campbell highlighted that Carse is crucial for England, having taken 27 wickets at an average of 19.85 in just five Tests since debuting in October 2024. His best performance came in Christchurch, where he claimed 10 wickets for 106 runs.

In related news, Jofra Archer, last seen in Test cricket in 2021, has returned to bowling for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. England faces a crucial phase ahead, balancing player fitness with preparations for a challenging summer.
