In the ongoing second Test match between South Africa and Bangladesh at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, South Africa took control by reaching 413 runs for the loss of five wickets at the close of the first session on Day 2. After winning the toss, South Africa’s captain, Aiden Markram, opted to bat first, setting up a solid foundation by the end of Day 1.
Tony de Zorzi played a remarkable innings, scoring a century alongside Tristan Stubbs, which brought South Africa to a strong 307/2 by stumps on the first day. On Day 2, Taijul Islam provided breakthroughs for Bangladesh, beginning with the wicket of David Bedingham, who was trapped in front for 59, marking Taijul’s third wicket of the match. De Zorzi continued his fine form, reaching 150 before eventually falling to Taijul for an impressive 177 off 269 balls.
Taijul’s persistence paid off further as he dismissed Kyle Verreynne for a duck, securing his five-wicket haul in the innings. By the end of the first session on Day 2, Ryan Rickelton remained unbeaten on 11 from 33 balls, while Wiaan Mulder held steady with 12 runs from 27 deliveries. Taijul Islam has been the standout bowler for Bangladesh, claiming 5 wickets from his 43 overs, and conceding 152 runs in an impressive display.
