Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been suspended for his team's opening match of IPL 2027 after breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2026 final against the Gujarat Titans. David threw an ice bag towards umpire Nitin Menon after a wicket fell and was fined 50 per cent of his match fee. The offence earned him 2 demerit points, taking his season tally to 5 and triggering an automatic 1-match suspension.
In the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David was handed a one-match suspension after breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the title clash against the Gujarat Titans. The Australian all-rounder will now miss RCB’s opening match of IPL 2027. The incident occurred during the 10th over of the first innings when David reacted to the fall of a wicket by aggressively throwing an ice bag in the direction of on-field umpire Nitin Menon.
Following an investigation, the IPL found David guilty of violating Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to throwing a ball or any piece of cricket equipment at or near a player, official, umpire, or any other person inappropriately or dangerously. As punishment, David was fined 50 per cent of his match fee and received 2 demerit points. He admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath.
The suspension was triggered because this was David’s third Level 1 offence of the season. He had previously earned 1 demerit point in Match 20 and 2 more in Match 54. With the latest 2 points, his season tally reached 5 demerit points, resulting in an automatic one-match ban. Despite helping RCB win the IPL 2026 title, David’s campaign ended with disciplinary action that will keep him out of the first game of the next season.
