After the departure of Stephen Fleming, Chennai Super Kings are reportedly considering Eoin Morgan as a possible replacement for the head coach position. Former India spinner and long time CSK player Ravichandran Ashwin revealed that Morgan’s name is strongly linked to the role, adding that a decision could be made within the next week. Fleming’s exit ends an impressive 19 year association with CSK, during which the franchise won 5 IPL titles.

Morgan, however, has never served as a head coach in international or franchise cricket. Since retiring in 2023, he has mainly worked as a commentator and cricket pundit. The former England captain brings considerable white ball leadership experience. He guided England to their first ODI World Cup title in 2019 and helped transform the team into a more aggressive side.

That experience could be valuable for CSK as the franchise looks to rebuild after missing the IPL playoffs in each of the last 3 seasons. Ashwin also suggested that MS Dhoni could ultimately take charge, believing his deep connection with CSK makes him a natural choice. With the mega auction just 1 year away, the franchise faces an important decision over Fleming’s successor and its future direction.
