The IPL Eliminators are often considered the toughest knockout matches in the tournament because one bad performance can immediately end a team’s campaign. Over the years, several strong franchises have struggled to handle the pressure of these do-or-die contests. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are among the teams that have faced repeated heartbreaks in Eliminator matches despite producing memorable performances in different IPL seasons.

However, another painful defeat arrived in 2019 when Delhi Capitals chased 163 in Visakhapatnam. Rishabh Pant’s explosive 49 from 21 balls helped DC win by 2 wickets in a thrilling final over. Their latest Eliminator setback came in 2026 when Rajasthan Royals completely dominated the SRH in New Chandigarh. RR posted a massive 243 runs, powered by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s stunning 97 from just 29 balls. SRH were eventually bowled out for 196 and suffered a heavy 47-run defeat.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 3 Losses

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have also endured several difficult Eliminator exits with 3 losses so far. Their first came in 2020 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi. RCB managed only 131 runs despite AB de Villiers scoring 56, while Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 50 guided SRH to a comfortable win. In 2021, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated RCB by 4 wickets in Sharjah.

Sunil Narine starred with both bat and ball, and the defeat also marked the end of Virat Kohli’s tenure as RCB captain in the IPL. Their most recent Eliminator defeat came in 2024 when the Rajasthan Royals chased down 173 in Ahmedabad. Contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, and Shimron Hetmyer helped RR seal a 4-wicket victory and end RCB’s campaign once again.
