Aakash Chopra Remains Optimistic About India’s Chances to Qualify for WTC 2024-25 Final
Aakash Chopra discusses India's chances to qualify for the World Test Championship final. With only two Tests remaining in the series against Australia, Chopra emphasizes that India must win the next two matches to secure qualification without relying on other results.
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has shared his thoughts on India’s World Test Championship final qualification chances, as the team nears the end of the current cycle. With just two Tests left in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Chopra remains optimistic but stresses the importance of India winning the series to advance.
Speaking on a social media platform, Chopra highlighted that India cannot afford a draw in the series. He said:
India can definitely reach the WTC final. Of course, you need to win the series. The series cannot end in a draw. We will be out if the series ends in a draw. You had the chance of two wins and a draw before Gabba but since this game ended as a draw, you need to win the next two games.
If India wins both the remaining Tests, their points percentage will rise to 60.53, comfortably above Australia’s 57.02, securing their spot in the final.
However, if the series ends in a draw or India wins only one Test, the outcome becomes uncertain. Chopra also pointed out the difficulty and further added:
You will be able to leave here after winning the series 3-1. That would be absolutely miraculous because no one expected us to win in Perth but we won there. We didn’t perform well in the pink-ball Test match in Adelaide and we collapsed there but we somehow held on to a draw in Gabba.
The series is currently tied 1-1, with both teams eyeing the final qualification. The next two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney will be crucial in deciding India’s fate.
