Sri Lanka vs South Africa: Sri Lanka Gears Up for South Africa Tests with Momentum and a Balanced Squad
Sri Lanka Cricket has named a 17-player squad for the two-Test series against South Africa, to be played away. Dhananjaya de Silva will remain the captain for the series, which is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
Sri Lanka and South Africa will face off in a two-Test series starting November 27 at Kingsmead, with the second match set for December 5 at St. George’s Oval in Port Elizabeth. Both teams are focused on strong performance in this series to improve their chances of reaching the ICC World Test Championship 2025 final.
South Africa and Sri Lanka come into the series with recent victories. South Africa won 2-0 against Bangladesh, while Sri Lanka achieved a 2-0 sweep over New Zealand at home. In the WTC standings, Sri Lanka is third with a PCT of 55.56 and South Africa is fifth with a PCT of 54.17.
The SLC announced the squad for the Test series against South Africa, with ten players already in Durban for a pre-series camp. These players are participating in training and practice sessions. The rest of the squad is scheduled to leave for South Africa on November 22 to join the preparations.
Sri Lanka’s squad includes a solid batting lineup featuring Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama. All-rounders Dhananjaya de Silva and Angelo Mathews add balance. The pace attack consists of Lahiru Kumara, Asistha Fernando, Kasun Rajitha and Milan Rathnayake, while Prabath Jayasuriya and Nishan Peiris take charge of spin bowling.
