Rohit & Kohli’s Test Future Uncertain Ahead of England Tour

With the India squad for the England Test tour (June 20–August 4) to be announced in two weeks, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's selection remains uncertain due to poor form. Rohit scored just 164 runs in eight innings, while Kohli managed only 85 in his last four Tests, despite a century in Perth.

For the England tour, India’s Test squad announcement is expected in two weeks, just before the IPL 2025 final. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, will meet soon to finalize the squad. The biggest suspense surrounds the inclusion of veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both under scrutiny due to recent dips in Test form. While Saikia refrained from confirming their selection, head coach Gautam Gambhir emphasized performance over age, stating, “If you’re doing well, you stay—no matter if you’re 38 or 45”.

India is set to play five Test matches in England from June 20 to August 4 as part of the new World Test Championship cycle. Meanwhile, an ‘A’ team will begin its England Lions series on May 30, with some players arriving by May 25. The selection decisions carry extra weight as India missed out on the last WTC final.

Recent away Test series have been tough—India suffered a 0-3 whitewash in New Zealand and a 1-3 defeat in Australia. Rohit managed just 164 runs in eight innings, while Kohli scored 85 runs in his last four Tests after an initial century in Perth. Both face pivotal moments in their Test careers as India seeks a strong reboot.
