KL Rahul Likely To Replace Rohit Sharma As Test Captain

KL Rahul is emerging as the top contender to lead India in the upcoming England Test series, owing to his 185 runs in IPL 2025 and DC’s unbeaten run. Rohit Sharma’s poor IPL form has alarmed selectors, while other captaincy options like Bumrah and young stars are still under evaluation.

While the IPL 2025 continues to unfold, the focus has shifted to the Indian Test captaincy, with KL Rahul emerging as a strong contender to replace Rohit Sharma. According to a MyKhel report, Rahul’s steady performances of 185 runs in three matches for the unbeaten Delhi Capitals have impressed selectors, especially amid Rohit’s poor form for the Mumbai Indians.

Rohit had earned trust after leading India to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but his struggles in the current IPL have raised concerns about his suitability for the upcoming five-match Test series in England. With only 4-5 players reportedly confirmed for the England tour, Rahul’s prior experience as captain, calm demeanor, and familiarity with English conditions work in his favor.

Selectors are also considering Jasprit Bumrah as a potential captain, while young talents like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are viewed as not yet ready for leadership. Players like Sai Sudharsan (273 runs in 5 matches), Sai Kishore (10 wickets), and Karun Nair (strong domestic form) are also in contention for the England series.

Though some BCCI officials still back Rohit’s leadership in home Tests, growing doubts about his overseas performance have made Rahul the front-runner to lead India in England.
