India vs Australia: Rift in Indian Camp as Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir Disagree, Claims Ex-Cricketer
India's Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign faces turmoil as tensions between captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir surface, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali claims. Poor performances, including a 445-run Australian first-innings lead in Brisbane, and inconsistent strategy, like spinner rotation and field decisions, highlight cracks. Basit criticized key exclusions like Ashwin and Sundar, citing strategic missteps.
In the third Test between India and Australia, nothing has been going right for the visitors as they struggle against a dominant Australian side at the Gabba. Captain Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first backfired, with Australia amassing 445 runs in their first innings. Travis Head and Steve Smith dismantled the Indian bowling attack with a commanding 241-run partnership, both scoring centuries. While Jasprit Bumrah’s six-wicket haul offered a glimmer of hope, the damage had already been done.
India’s batting woes deepened as Australian pacers reduced them to 51/4 in their first innings, exposing significant cracks in their strategy. Adding fuel to the fire, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali suggested a rift between Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir. To this, he added:
Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir are not on the same page, be it the one-day tournament in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, which was a weak series, or the New Zealand series after that. In the second and third (tests), they (Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir) were not on the same page, as Rahul Dravid. He and Rohit were on the same page.
Ali criticized inconsistent team selections, citing the absence of Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin despite conditions favoring their inclusion. He also questioned the lack of a left-arm pacer to exploit angles against Australian batters like Travis Head. India now faces mounting challenges, both on and off the field, as they trail in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
