India vs Australia: Jasprit Bumrah’s Limited Availability Highlighted by Manjrekar with 34 Percent Match Participation in Three Years

Sanjay Manjrekar highlighted Jasprit Bumrah’s limited participation in international cricket, stating that the pacer has played only 34% of India’s matches over the last three years. Despite this, Bumrah remains vital, especially in key series like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Manjrekar suggested resting him in less significant bilateral games to manage his workload and ensure availability for crucial contests.

India has been blessed to have a player like Jasprit Bumrah, but his availability has been a concern. In the past three years, Bumrah has participated in just 34% of India’s international matches, as highlighted by Sanjay Manjrekar. Despite being a critical asset, his appearances have been carefully managed to maintain fitness for crucial series like the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the series so far, Bumrah has led the bowling attack with notable performances, especially in the absence of seasoned bowlers like Mohammed Shami.

However, India faced a crushing 10-wicket loss in the second Test at Adelaide. With the series level at 1-1, Bumrah’s role in the remaining matches, including the third Test at Gabba, is vital. India must win 4-1 to secure a spot in the World Test Championship Finals. Considering this, Sanjay Manjrekar said:

I play him every Test match purely because Indian cricket takes care of Bumrah. And I’ve said this before as well, the number is etched in my head. 34% of international matches that India has played in the last three years is what Bumrah has played. Only 34% of what Indian cricket has played. So he’s well rested. And this is when you need it because these are the series that will be remembered forever. Give him a break in one of those bilaterals that we forget 48 hours later.

Manjrekar suggested prioritizing marquee events for Bumrah’s workload, as his fitness and presence are crucial for Indian cricket’s long-term success.
