IND vs AUS: Sunil Gavaskar Critisises Mohammed Siraj for Costly Mix-Up with Ravindra Jadeja During Gabba Test

Sunil Gavaskar expressed anger at Mohammed Siraj during the Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Brisbane. He criticized Siraj after a miscommunication with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Day 4 of the match, which led to frustration for the team.

During the 62nd over of India’s innings, Ravindra Jadeja ran a single on the fourth ball, expecting Mohammed Siraj to safely play the last two balls. The plan was for Jadeja to regain the strike in the next over, but the situation caused confusion between the two players.

Mohammed Siraj was supposed to block the fifth ball but unexpectedly ran for a single. After an overthrow by Australia, he stepped out of his crease again despite Jadeja signaling him to stay back. They managed to complete the run, but Jadeja seemed upset and had a mid-pitch discussion with Siraj about the mix-up.

Sunil Gavaskar criticized Mohammed Siraj for his lack of cricketing awareness and questioned his decision-making. He emphasized that Siraj should prioritize the team over taking risky singles, suggesting it was not the right time for such players. He said:

Even now, in the middle of the crease, they are having a conversation. Siraj is having a conversation. What’s going on over here? One ball is left in the over. All you’ve got to do is stick around. There is no run. It looks to be in a very casual manner. Look at that. There’s got to be some cricketing awareness. You are a no.9 batter. You have to think about team. You cannot think of taking risky singles.

The mix-up proved costly for India as Jadeja didn’t get the strike for the next over. Facing Mitchell Starc in the next over, it became challenging for Mohammed Siraj, making it tough for India to score runs in that crucial period.
