The India National Cricket Team faced a major setback when top-order batter Shubman Gill suffered a hand injury. As a result, he was ruled out of the opening Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. The match took place at the Optus Stadium in Perth, and Gill’s absence was a big blow to India’s plans, leaving the team to adjust their batting lineup for the crucial series opener.

Abhishek Nayar mentioned that Shubman Gill seemed comfortable while practicing in the nets. However, a decision on whether he will play the warm-up game will be made after a proper assessment. He said:

He is batting now. The evaluation will be done by our physio. I am not aware of his status. But, when batting, he looked very comfortable. He is batting indoors. We will assess whether he will play tomorrow’s match after the assessment.

Shubman Gill started with some underarm throws before gradually increasing the intensity of his practice. He faced left-arm pacer Yash Dayal and right-arm fast bowler Akash Deep in the nets and appeared to bat comfortably without showing any signs of discomfort.

Shubman Gill practiced in the nets with captain Rohit Sharma, who is set to lead India in the warm-up game. Rohit missed the first Test of the series due to the birth of his child but rejoined the team before Day 4 of the opening match.
