IND vs AUS: Rohit Sharma’s Struggling Form Has a Major Impact on Leadership for India
Rohit Sharma looked subdued and lacked energy on the field as Australia easily triumphed with a 10-wicket victory in the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval. The hosts dominated throughout, making it a challenging match for the Indian captain and his team.
After missing the series opener in Perth, Rohit Sharma returned to lead the team in Adelaide. However, his decisions came under scrutiny as India struggled, getting bowled out for 150 and then managing only 180 in their second innings. Australia easily chased the 18-run target.
Rohit had a tough time with the bat, managing just six runs in the first innings and three in the second. Limited practice before the pink-ball Test showed as he struggled against Boland and Starc, who both dismissed him at Adelaide.
Ahead of the third Test, India’s Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara highlighted the need for Rohit Sharma to spend more time at the crease. He suggested that gaining form with the bat would help boost Rohit’s confidence as a leader. He said:
My thoughts on Rohit Sharma as a captain and a player. First of all, I would like Rohit Sharma to come back to form as soon as possible. Because when he scores runs, it will affect his captaincy as well.
Harbhajan Singh also supported Rohit Sharma, saying that finding his batting rhythm would positively impact his captaincy. He emphasized that getting back in form would boost Rohit’s confidence and effectiveness on the field.
