Indian opener KL Rahul heaped praise on Ravindra Jadeja following the latter’s invaluable 77-run knock on Day 4 of the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Jadeja’s gritty innings came at a critical juncture, helping India edge closer to avoiding the follow-on. Despite losing partners at regular intervals, Jadeja stitched together vital lower-order partnerships, showcasing his composure and experience.

About Jadeja’s brilliant knock, which saved India from the shameful follow-on, Rahul said in the post-match press conference:

Jadeja was brilliant today. He has been brilliant batting down the order for us for many, many years. That’s what we expect from Jadeja. He’s proven that he can do this and he’s done this for so many years. I was also really happy that, firstly, I could stitch a partnership with him when he came in … yeah, he’s a very experienced guy. He’s played there for so many years.

Jadeja’s innings not only steadied the Indian innings but also highlighted his often-overlooked batting capabilities. Rahul emphasized his impactful inning and further added:

Jadeja understands exactly what he needs to do and how he needs to perform and get runs for the team at that stage. Often, it’s only Jadeja’s bowling that’s spoken about… He has a really solid technique and I enjoy batting with him.

As India resumes their innings tomorrow with Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep at the crease, the team hopes to extend their batting and challenge the Australian bowlers further.
