Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25: Alex Carey Shows Confidence About Australia’s Counter Attack Against Jasprit Bumrah in Adelaide Pink-Ball Test
Alex Carey expressed Australia’s confidence in tackling Jasprit Bumrah in the second Test against India in Adelaide, emphasizing strategic adjustments to counter the pacer’s threat. He praised Travis Head’s counterattacking approach and outlined Australia’s preparation for the pink-ball Test while affirming the team’s belief in securing a series victory.
Wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has outlined Australia’s approach to tackling India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the second Test in Adelaide. Bumrah’s stellar performance in Perth, where he claimed eight wickets, played a pivotal role in Australia’s 295-run defeat. However, Carey believes the team is better prepared this time.
Speaking at a press conference, Carey acknowledged Bumrah’s brilliance but expressed confidence in Australia’s ability to handle him. He said:
Oh, look, he’s a fantastic bowler and has been for years. Our batters are world-class and always find solutions. We’ve analysed him, and hopefully, we can handle his first and second spells better, getting him to bowl later with an older ball. Travis’s counterpunch was effective, and I trust our batters to adapt. Not just Bumrah, but their other debutants also bowled well, and we’ll strategise accordingly.
Highlighting Travis Head’s attacking batting in the first Test, Carey praised the team’s resilience and adaptability against India’s attack, which included impressive debutants.
Carey also discussed his middle-order role alongside Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh. He added:
But I feel like, you know, for myself, Trav, Mitch. We play differently to those top four, and we try to go out there..…..as you know, the middle order. But, there are opportunities as well to absorb the pressure.
Australia’s impeccable record in pink-ball Tests, with 11 wins out of 12, boosts their confidence heading into the day-night clash on December 6. Unbeaten in seven home matches under lights, the hosts are determined to level the series and capitalize on their favorable conditions in Adelaide.
