Riyan Parag Replaces Sanju Samson as RR Captain for IPL 2025 First 3 Games!

Rajasthan Royals named Riyan Parag as captain for their first three IPL 2025 matches, making him the youngest skipper in IPL history. Sanju Samson, recovering from finger surgery after a Jofra Archer injury, will play as a specialist batter. RR face SRH (March 23), KKR (March 26), and CSK (March 30) under Parag’s leadership.

With the announcement made just two days before IPL 2025 kicks off, Rajasthan Royals have named Riyan Parag as their captain for the first three matches of the season, replacing regular skipper Sanju Samson. The decision comes as Samson continues his recovery from a finger injury sustained during India’s T20I series against England, where a Jofra Archer delivery forced him off the field in the fifth match. Although Samson is fit to bat, he is not ready for wicketkeeping duties, prompting the Royals to hand leadership responsibilities to Parag.

This historic move makes 23-year-old Riyan Parag the youngest captain in IPL history. Parag will lead Rajasthan Royals in their season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23, followed by crucial home matches against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 and five-time champions Chennai Super Kings on March 30. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson will continue playing as a pure batsman until he fully recovers and resumes full-time captaincy. He has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after surgery.

Parag, who has been with RR since 2019, now faces the challenge of guiding the Royals through a tough opening schedule while balancing his personal form and leadership duties.
