Ravichandran Ashwin Spotted at Chennai Airport after His Retirement from International Cricket, Embraces New Chapter
Ravichandran Ashwin, India's second-highest wicket-taker in Tests, announced his retirement from international cricket during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The veteran off-spinner, with 537 Test wickets to his name, will now focus on club cricket, including the IPL. The legendary off-spinner took an early morning flight and returned to Chennai today.
Ravichandran Ashwin, one of India’s most prolific bowlers, officially retired from international cricket on Wednesday, leaving the cricketing world in awe of his illustrious career. The announcement came during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is currently tied at 1-1. Ashwin returned quietly to Chennai on Thursday, where he was seen at the airport with his family but refrained from speaking to the media.
Ashwin’s Test career concludes with a remarkable 537 wickets in 106 matches, placing him second only to Anil Kumble (619 wickets) among India’s all-time greats. Reflecting on his decision, Ashwin stated:
I do feel there is a bit of punch left in me as a cricketer, but I would like to showcase that in club-level cricket. The cricketer in me, the Indian cricketer, international cricketer might have come to an end, but the cricket nut in me will never come to an end.

He plans to continue playing club cricket, including representing Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
A 14-year international journey saw Ashwin shine across formats. He was instrumental in India’s 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy victories, claiming 156 wickets in 116 ODIs and 72 scalps in 65 T20Is.
