New Zealand vs England: Devon Conway to Miss Third Test Against England to Welcome First Child
New Zealand will be without Devon Conway for the third Test against England as he stays in Wellington for the birth of his first child. Mark Chapman joins the squad, and Will Young is expected to open. With a 2-0 deficit, New Zealand may also include Mitchell Santner for spin support, while Tim Southee prepares for his Test farewell.
For the 3rd and final Test of the series between England and New Zealand, opener Devon Conway will miss the match to be with his family in Wellington for the birth of his first child. Auckland Aces batter Mark Chapman has been called up as a replacement. New Zealand coach Gary Stead expressed full support for Conway’s decision, emphasizing the importance of family.
Conway’s absence paves the way for Will Young to return to the XI. Young, who was instrumental in New Zealand’s historic series win in India with 244 runs at an average of 48.40, has been sidelined since Kane Williamson’s return from injury. Williamson has been New Zealand’s top performer in this series, scoring 195 runs at 48.75, but the rest of the batting line-up, including Conway, has struggled against England’s dominance.
New Zealand captain Tom Latham hinted at potential changes for the Hamilton Test at Seddon Park, a ground known for its flat surfaces. Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner may be included to exploit the conditions. Meanwhile, Tim Southee is expected to play his final Test before retirement, despite a lackluster series performance. England leads the series 2-0, having secured a commanding win in the second Test.
