Michael Clarke Backs Kohli and Rohit to Shine in Australia Despite Recent Struggles

Virat Kohli is struggling in his test career, with his last century coming against West Indies in July 2023. He has only managed one score over 50 overs in his last 10 innings. Critics have pointed out his difficulties with spin, leading some to suggest he may retire from tests.

As India prepares to tour Australia for the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy starting November 22, former Australia captain Michael Clarke believes Virat Kohli will perform well, as he did in the past. Clarke also expects Rohit Sharma to find form, given that India’s captain is also struggling with a run drought. The upcoming series could see both batters make a strong comeback.

Michael Clarke commented on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in a podcast, saying:

India know they’ve played well out here in Australia and they’ll still come here with plenty of talent & that self-belief, but hopefully fresh. That’s the key for the Indian players. Virat Kohli – you can’t be that good for such a long period of time and just turn the tap off. So once he freshens up, and Rohit Sharma the same, you’ll see the best of them.

Virat Kohli has an impressive record in Australia, leading India to their first test series win there in 2019. As a batter, he is exceptional, having scored 2042 runs in 25 tests with eight centuries. His first test century came in Adelaide in 2012, where he scored 116 runs off 213 balls. He also became India’s test captain at the same venue in 2014.
