India vs England: Harbhajan Singh Critisises Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for Poor Form and Team Decisions

Harbhajan Singh criticized Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for their poor performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He emphasized that selection should be based on a player's performance rather than their status or reputation, suggesting that form should take priority over past achievements in team selection.

In the fifth Test in Sydney, India lost by six wickets, ending the series 1-3. This marked India’s first Test series defeat in Australia since the 2014-15 series. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma struggled when the team needed them most, leading to doubts about their places in the Test line-up.

Harbhajan Singh stated that no player, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, should be above the game. He suggested that if selectors choose senior players for the England tour, they should make sure those players participate in country cricket to get sufficient match practice before the series. He said:

The selection should be based on the performance, whether Virat or Rohit. No player is bigger than the game, even if they think they are superstars in their minds. If you want to take senior players on tour, you have to make sure they play county cricket before the England series.

Rohit Sharma, who batted as both opener and in the middle order, scored only 31 runs in five innings, averaging 6.2. In his last 15 Test innings, he managed 164 runs at an average of 10.93, with just one half-century to his name.

Virat Kohli scored 190 runs in nine innings, averaging 23.75, with an unbeaten century in the first Test in Perth. He was dismissed in a similar way eight times, chasing deliveries outside the off-stump. In his last 15 Test innings, Kohli scored 359 runs at an average of 27.61.
