India vs Australia: Virat Kohli’s Aggression Revolutionised Indian Cricket: Mitchell Johnson Ahead of Australia-India Series
As Pat Cummins’ Australia prepares to face India in a five-match Test series starting next Friday, former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson has heaped praise on Virat Kohli for evolving the mindset and body language of Indian cricket. Speaking about Kohli’s influence, Johnson credited the former Indian captain for introducing an aggressive, competitive spirit that was a game changer for the team.
Johnson reflected on the intense yet enjoyable rivalry he shared with Kohli during the 2014-15 Test series. Although Australia won that series 2-0, Kohli’s stellar performances left a lasting impression on the Aussies also. With this statement, he further said that Australia was able to get the things well but the way Kohli had an impact was surreal.
The whole series revolved around how Kohli batted on the Australian pitches and was able to score 4 centuries for the team. In the statement, he said:
I remember hearing at the back end of Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag’s careers, a young Kohli would push his teammates to go harder at training, particularly with fielding drills…….. I could sense a difference in the Indian team I played against in 2014/15, my last full Aussie summer before I retired from international cricket the following November. They were competitive and confident they could beat us at home and while they didn’t do it that summer, won 2-0 over Australia over four Tests, that was the last time the Aussies have won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
As Australia seeks to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, they face a daunting task of breaking an 11-year winless streak in the Test series against India since 2015. With past battles fresh in memory, this highly anticipated contest promises to deliver thrilling moments for cricket fans worldwide.
