With the 2nd Test match between India and Australia all set to begin on December 6 in Adelaide, India captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed that he will bat in the middle order. Despite speculations about a potential return to the opening spot, Rohit has decided to stick with the successful opening partnership of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who shared a 201-run stand in the first Test, contributing to India’s dominant 295-run victory.

Rohit acknowledged Rahul’s excellent form at the top of the order, stating that Rahul deserves the spot, especially for overseas conditions. In the warm-up game, Rohit batted at number four, with Rahul opening, indicating a shift in roles. He said:

Yeah, KL Rahul will be opening the batting. I will be batting somewhere in the middle. Way KL batted, I was watching from home with a newborn baby on my arms, he played brilliantly so there is no need to change now, things might be different in future – the way KL bats in overseas, he deserves that spot at this point of time.

Rohit mentioned that the decision was not easy, as he hasn’t batted in the middle order for a while, but he is ready to make this adjustment for the team’s benefit. This decision ensures the continuity of the successful opening partnership.
