India vs Australia: Rohit Sharma Explains Team India’s Unusual Practice on Worn-Out Pitches
India is preparing for the fourth Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with the series tied at 1-1. Rohit Sharma revealed the team practiced on used Big Bash pitches at MCG, which had poor bounce. They will switch to fresher wickets for Tuesday’s session. Rohit mentioned considering conditions, including weather, for selecting the playing XI.
The Boxing Day Test match is all set to intensify the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as India and Australia gear up for the fourth game at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). With the series tied at 1-1, both teams are focused on preparation. Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed that the team had to practice on used pitches, which were previously utilized for the Big Bash League. However, fresher practice surfaces will be available for the final training session on Tuesday.
Rohit highlighted that the MCG pitch had a grass covering and hinted at the possibility of playing an extra spinner, depending on conditions. While India’s players, including Sharma and Virat Kohli, are preparing intensely, they are also under scrutiny for inconsistent performances. Rohit said:
I think those pitches which we trained the last couple of days, I think they were used pitches, I think they were used for Big Bash, and now today is the only day where we are going to get the other side of it, which will be fresher wicket. So we will go and see how it is and we will train accordingly. And we are certainly considering the weather factor and all of that. We will see what is the best. I have not seen the wicket today. But whatever we have to do to make the best possible 11 in these conditions, we will try and do that, whether it is playing an extra spinner or not.
Kohli scored a century in Perth but struggled in the following games, while Sharma has managed just 19 runs across two matches. Both players’ form will be crucial for India’s chances of winning the series and strengthening their position in the ICC World Test Championship.
