India vs Australia: Rain to offer India a lifeline on Brisbane Test’s final day

Frequent rain interruptions in the Brisbane Test have given India a strong chance to secure a draw. With only 192 overs bowled in four days, more showers are forecast for the final day. Australia, a bowler down due to Josh Hazlewood's injury, needs quick breakthroughs and sufficient time to set a target. India's survival depends on further rain delays.

For the final day of the Brisbane Test against Australia, India stands a good chance of securing a draw thanks to persistent rain interruptions and a resilient effort from their tail-enders. Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep’s unbeaten last-wicket partnership helped India avoid the follow-on, frustrating the hosts and adding crucial runs. With only 192 overs bowled over the first four days, weather forecasts predict further disruptions on the final day, with showers and possible thunderstorms expected, particularly late in the morning and afternoon.

Australia, already a bowler short due to Josh Hazlewood’s calf injury, faces the challenge of forcing a result in limited time. They will need to dismiss India’s final wicket quickly, bat aggressively for around 20 overs, and set a target of around 300 runs with roughly 70 overs remaining. However, Nathan Lyon’s workload will likely increase to compensate for Hazlewood’s absence, as Australia may rely heavily on their spinners and refreshed seamers due to frequent stoppages.

KL Rahul, India’s top scorer with 84 runs, acknowledged the difficulties faced by both teams due to the constant rain delays, calling it frustrating and physically demanding. With rain expected to dominate play, India’s hopes of saving the Test appear increasingly promising.
