Pat Cummins played a key role in Australia's 184-run victory over India in the MCG Test, taking 3-89 and 3-28 with the ball, and contributing 49 and 41 with the bat. The win gave Australia a 2-1 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Cummins praised the "ridiculous" crowd and credited lower-order batting for Australia's success.
For the 4th Test match against India, Australian captain Pat Cummins has been praising the MCG crowd for their incredible energy, calling it “ridiculous” in the best possible way. After Australia’s dominant 184-run victory, which gave them a 2-1 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Cummins, who was named Player of the Match, highlighted the crowd’s role in boosting the team’s performance.
Cummins contributed significantly with both bat and ball, scoring 49 and 41 in Australia’s first and second innings, while also taking figures of 3/89 and 3/28. He said:
What an amazing Test match, I reckon one of the best I’ve been part of. All week the crowd has been ridiculous, and it’s been amazing to be part of. Marnus helped me out in that second innings big time, happy to contribute. Amazing innings from Steve, winning the toss, it wasn’t easy on the first day, to get up to high 400s was terrific. We put a lot of work into our lower-order batting, we work a lot on how best to bowl to the opposition batters firstly, but also how we can contribute with the bat.
Reflecting on the game, Cummins said it was one of the best Test matches he’s been a part of, pointing to the importance of Australia’s first-innings total of 474 and lower-order contributions. The team’s strategic decision to delay their declaration was aimed at reducing India’s chances of a win. With this victory, Australia heads into the final Test in Sydney with momentum.
