Jack Edwards has been named captain of the Prime Minister's XI for the two-day pink-ball match against India in Canberra. The team, featuring seasoned pacer Scott Boland and rising stars like Charlie Anderson and Mahli Beardman, offers a blend of youth and experience as a crucial preparation for India’s second Test.
Jack Edwards, the promising New South Wales allrounder, has been appointed captain of the Prime Minister’s XI for their pink-ball warm-up match against India ahead of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The game, set to take place at Manuka Oval, Canberra, on November 30, will feature a mix of emerging talents from county cricket and seasoned campaigners from Australian domestic cricket.
The squad includes veteran fast bowler Scott Boland, who is part of Australia’s Test squad but did not play the series opener in Perth. Boland, renowned for his outstanding Test record especially against India in the last WTC final, will spearhead the bowling attack in the warm-up fixture.
Among the emerging stars, Matthew Renshaw and Sam Konstas, both in contention for Test selection, aim to solidify their cases against a formidable Indian bowling unit. Konstas, recently emerging as a contender for the Perth Test, will partner with Renshaw, who has been on the fringes of national selection for several years.
Additionally, Young talents Charlie Anderson and Mahli Beardman, key contributors to Australia’s Under-19 World Cup triumph, add depth to the squad. The game also holds significance for India, offering valuable preparation for the pink-ball Test in Adelaide.
India’s regular captain Rohit Sharma is expected to return for the Adelaide Test, boosting the visitor’s spirit after missing the Perth match. With Jasprit Bumrah leading in his absence, this warm-up game serves as a vital tune-up for a crucial day-night clash.
