India vs Australia: Cheteshwar Pujara Proposes Tweaks to India’s XI for Brisbane Test in 2024-25

Cheteshwar Pujara has suggested changes to India's playing XI for the upcoming Brisbane Test against Australia, starting December 14. Pujara recommended replacing Ravichandran Ashwin with Washington Sundar, as the batting struggled in the second Test. He also backed Harshit Rana despite his tough performance in Adelaide, after a strong showing in the first Test.

The loss in the 2nd test match against Australia has proved to be tough for the Indian players, with India losing by 10 wickets in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide. Following the heavy defeat, veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara has suggested changes for the third Test in Brisbane, slated to start on December 14.

He recommended replacing Ravichandran Ashwin with Washington Sundar, as India’s batting struggled in the second Test. Pujara emphasized that the all-rounder Sundar could add depth to the batting lineup. Pujara said:

I feel only change might happen. Since the batting wasn’t good, Washington Sundar can come in place of R Ashwin. Should someone come in place of Harshit Rana? In my opinion – no. You backed him and he performed well in the first match. The second match was bad for him. However, the team will have to support him. He is a good bowler. You cannot drop him just because one match went bad. We will have to see what the team management thinks but probably only change for me – if they feel the batting lineup needs strengthening, Washington can play for Ashwin.

Pujara also backed Harshit Rana, who had a tough time in Adelaide despite a good performance in the first Test, saying the team should support him. Former cricketer Piyush Chawla, however, disagreed with Pujara, stating that Ashwin should remain in the XI as he bowled well in the second Test and could contribute with the bat, much like Sundar.
