IND vs AUS: Vaughan Highlights Key Battles and Challenges for India in Border Gavaskar Trophy

Michael Vaughan predicts a 3-1 win for Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy but adds a key condition. He believes the series outcome may hinge on the performance of the two star No.4 batters, Virat Kohli and Steve Smith with Australia entering as the clear favourites.

Vaughan noted that both teams have strong bowling attacks, so scoring more than 500 runs may not be frequent during the series. He explained that, 15 to 20 years ago, teams would focus on reaching 500 runs in Australia. However, he believes that today, scoring 350 runs would make a team very competitive, showing how the balance between batting and bowling has shifted in recent years.

Michael Vaughan commented on Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, saying:

Steve Smith back at number four, those two innings that we saw in the one-day series, he seemed to have had that flow (back). We’ve seen Steve’s eyes when he’s playing well, he just looks completely composed, calm out in the middle. He (has) found that. I think Virat Kohli, when he comes here when he lands in Australia, he lands and knows that this is a place that he’s had a huge amount of success. You could argue which of the number fours has the biggest series could be the deciding factor of the whole series.

Vaughan acknowledged that India has won their last two Test series in Australia but believes repeating that success will be difficult. He pointed out that in the previous series, India had a charismatic coach like Ravi Shastri and a strong captain in Virat Kohli, which contributed to their victories. This time, the challenge will be much tougher.
