Shubman Gill hurt his thumb while fielding in the slips in a practice game against India A in Perth. He had to leave the field and didn’t return for the training match. The BCCI has yet to release an official update about his availability for the first Test.
Despite reports of being unavailable for the first Test, Shubman Gill was spotted at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Wednesday, November 20. Images shared by the media outlet showed Gill inspecting the pitch, accompanied by Rishabh Pant. These photos raised speculation about Gill’s involvement and hinted at his continued engagement with the team preparations.
Morne Morkel shared an update on Shubman Gill, mentioning that the batter is showing steady improvement. He explained that a final decision on Gill’s availability for the Test will be taken on the morning of the match. Morkel highlighted Gill’s strong performance during the match simulation, adding to the optimism about his recovery. He said:
On Shubman Gill, he is improving on a day-by-day basis. We will take a call on the morning of the test. He played well in the match simulation in the build-up. So fingers crossed.
