In the first Test of the series in Perth, Josh Hazelwood pointed the finger at his team’s batters for their poor performance. When questioned about chasing the huge target set by India, Hazelwood responded by directing the question to the batters, suggesting they were responsible for the team’s struggles.

On the eve of the Adelaide Test, Pat Cummins denied claims of a rift within the Australian team. He criticized the commentators and assured them that Australia had prepared well for the match, expressing the team’s eagerness to perform well and succeed. He said:

The team’s great. Some of the commentators got that 100 percent wrong. We’ve prepared like we always do and get around each other. It’s a great feeling around the team. We don’t make too much of it. When things don’t go right, there’s enough commentators that will support you but also some that will, of course, create some headlines. We try not to take too much notice of it. We just go about our things.

Josh Hazelwood was ruled out of the second Test due to an injury, but Sunil Gavaskar disagreed with the decision. Gavaskar suggested that Hazelwood’s comments after the first Test might have led to his exclusion, arguing that Hazelwood was fully fit during the first Test and questioning his omission.
