David Warner has received criticism from the former cricketers regarding his statement to reverse his retirement for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Chris Rogers, Moises Henriques, and Lisa Sthalekar have commented on the statement issued by the former Australian opener David Warner, who announced his retirement just a few months ago.

Warner took his retirement in the Test match against Pakistan, where he received the best farewell expected, from the fans and even the teammates. He said that he’ll be willing to play in the upcoming round of the Sheffield Shield to prove his spot for the Australian squad in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

David Warner said,

I’m always dead serious. Let’s be honest, the guys have played one red ball game (first round of the shield) since their last Test matches in February, so I’ve almost had the same preparation. Honestly, if they really needed myself for this series, I’m more than happy to play the next Shield game and go out there and play. I did retire for the right reasons to finish the game, and I wanted to finish. (But) my hand is up if they desperately need someone. I’m not going to shy away from that.

Former Cricketers Criticise Warner

Following his statement on a comeback, Warner received criticism from Moises Henriques, Chris Rogers, and Lisa Sthalekar. Lisa said,

What baffles me is that this guy had his swansong last summer to say farewell and finish on his terms. One could argue that because of that allowance, the team is in this situation as selectors didn’t use those Tests wisely to blood the next opener.

Henriques also said that this might cause a hold to the upcoming generation of players.
