IND vs AUS: Concerns Over Mohammed Shami’s Fitness Cloud India’s Bowling Plans for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
Veteran pace bowler Mohammed Shami's fitness issues are a concern, raising doubts about his availability for the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The NCA will only clear him for international duty once he fully recovers and reaches full fitness.
Bengal’s campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 ended with a quarterfinal loss to Baroda in Bengaluru. Mohammed Shami made an underwhelming return, struggling to regain form after a lengthy injury absence. His last appearance for India was in the final match of the World Cup 2023.
India will continue their tour of Australia without Mohammed Shami. The Rohit Sharma-led team hopes to bounce back in the third Test at The Gabba in Brisbane starting December 14, but there are concerns about the fitness of star bowler Jasprit Bumrah, the leading wicket-taker in the series.
During a press conference in Adelaide, Rohit Sharma said the team doesn’t want to rush Shami back if he’s not fully fit, as it could cause further issues. He added that professionals are carefully monitoring his condition to avoid unnecessary pressure. He said:
We don’t want to bring him here in a situation and he plays and then he pulls up sore or something happens. We don’t want to put pressure on him to come here and do the job for the team. So, there are some professionals who are monitoring him.
Indian fans hoped Mohammed Shami would return to the national team for the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. However, his comeback hasn’t gone as planned, with limited participation in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 before the season switched to T20 cricket.
