Harshit Rana’s Remarkable Debut Draws Praise, Coach NS Negi Predicts Glorious Future
Former Delhi pacer and coach NS Negi has hailed Harshit Rana's remarkable Test debut in Perth, predicting the young bowler's rise as a multi-format stalwart for India. Harshit's journey, from a net bowler with Gujarat Titans to India’s Test hero, showcases his extraordinary talent and Negi’s instrumental mentorship.
Harshit Rana’s sensational Test debut in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia has left cricket enthusiasts in awe. The young pacer significantly helped India secure a commanding 295-run victory in Perth, marking the team’s largest overseas win by runs. With figures of 3/48 in the first innings and 1/69 in the second, Harshit’s lethal pace and precision tore through Australia’s batting lineup, giving India a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
The 23-year-old’s journey from being a Gujarat Titans net bowler to a key player for Kolkata Knight Riders during their IPL 2024 triumph has been extraordinary. Harshit’s rise to prominence reflects not only his talent but also the dedicated mentorship of former Delhi pacer and coach NS Negi, who has nurtured him since his U19 days.
Celebrating his performance, Negi expressed immense pride and predicted a bright future for Harshit. He said:
In 2018, when I was the head coach of the Delhi U19 team, I noted that he had a very smooth action and a good rhythm. He could bat well. He worked on his fitness and pace and gradually improved as a bowler.
Further discussing his future and upcoming international career, Negi added:
The most important thing is that he is a fighter. When I first picked Mayank (Yadav) and Harshit in the team, they were both very raw but promising. I just hope that he continues to work on his fitness and gradually keeps increasing his pace.
In just 10 first-class matches, Harshit has already claimed 43 wickets at an average of 24.00 and showcased his batting prowess with a remarkable unbeaten 122 against the North-East Zone, signaling his potential as a genuine all-rounder.
