The 40-year-old South African remains a top-order force, amassing 4,571 runs in 171 IPL matches at a strike rate of 136.36, including 37 fifties.
With Axar Patel leading the Delhi Capitals for the first time, du Plessis’ leadership will be crucial in guiding the squad. His appointment signals DC’s intent to balance youth with experience, especially as they look to improve on last season’s sixth-place finish, where they managed seven wins and seven losses.
