England vs New Zealand: Ben Stokes Determined to Overcome Injury Setback, Vows to Return Stronger
England captain Ben Stokes reaffirmed his commitment to his bowling workload despite aggravating a hamstring injury during the third Test against New Zealand. Stokes expressed frustration over the setback but vowed to return stronger, emphasizing his resolve to give his all on the field regardless of risks.
England skipper Ben Stokes has made it clear that his approach to bowling will remain unchanged despite his latest injury during the third Test against New Zealand. Stokes aggravated a torn hamstring, sustained earlier during The Hundred in August, which ruled him out of the remainder of the match in Wellington. Prior to the injury, he had bowled 24 overs in New Zealand’s first innings, showcasing his dedication and resilience.
The injury occurred two balls into his 13th over in the second innings, leaving England without their leader in a game they eventually lost by 423 runs.
Stokes reflected on the setback:
It’s just one of those unfortunate things. I ain’t holding back. Every time you walk out on the field, you’re at risk of injury. You can’t play for anything in this game.
Stokes expressed his disappointment at being sidelined after feeling in sync with his bowling rhythm for the first time in months. He added:
I felt so good about everything. I felt my rhythm was back with the ball. I bowled a lot of overs, my body was feeling good. The first time I feel like a young man again is when I pick something else up.
Despite the setback, Stokes remained optimistic about his recovery. England’s Test schedule resumes in May 2025 against Zimbabwe, followed by a high-profile home series against India in July and August.
