Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25: Indian Batters Under Scrutiny Ahead of Third Test Against Australia, Will Rohit Sharma Open in The High-stake Encounter?
Rohit Sharma’s batting position has sparked discussions as India prepares for the third Test against Australia. With KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal likely to open again, the team stuck to a similar practice routine. Coaches and players, including Rohit and Virat Kohli, engaged in strategic discussions and intense fielding drills.
The Indian cricket team’s batting line-up has been a hot topic in the ongoing Test series against Australia, especially regarding skipper Rohit Sharma’s position. After missing the first Test due to personal commitments, Rohit batted at No. 6 in the second Test, with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opening the innings. However, the move didn’t yield results as both Rohit and Rahul struggled with the bat.
Despite this, Thursday’s practice session hinted that India might retain the same order for the third Test. Rahul and Jaiswal were the first to hit the nets, followed by Rohit, who practiced earlier than usual, replacing Rahul momentarily before the latter returned for another round.
Virat Kohli, meanwhile, participated in stretching routines alongside other team members. Head coach Gautam Gambhir, bowling coach Morne Morkel, and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar held discussions likely centered on team strategy. Rohit was later seen chatting with opener Jaiswal and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
The team emphasized fielding drills, with players like Kohli, Rahul, Jaiswal, and Devdutt Padikkal working on slip-catching alongside Rishabh Pant. Jasprit Bumrah, pivotal in the first Test, warmed up while youngsters like Devdutt Padikkal and Harshit Rana focused on fitness routines.
With the batting line-up under scrutiny, the third Test promises to be a defining encounter for India’s series hopes.
