Veteran Aussie Cricketer Praises India’s Superior Cricket Infrastructure and Jaiswal’s Brilliance, Compared With Cricketing Legends Sachin and Kohli

Former India coach Greg Chappell praised Yashasvi Jaiswal, likening him to legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Chappell lauded India's junior cricket system, contrasting it with Australia's, and highlighted Jaiswal's 161-run knock in Perth. He emphasized India's superior infrastructure, stating their U-19 players often display unmatched game awareness against global counterparts.

Greg Chappell has hailed young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal as a worthy successor to the legacies of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Writing for an esteemed Australian journal, Chappell expressed admiration for Jaiswal’s commanding 161-run performance in the Perth Test, which played a pivotal role in India’s 295-run victory over Australia.

Chappell, who coached India between 2005 and 2007, highlighted the difference between India and Australia in nurturing cricketing talent, particularly for red-ball cricket. Comparing Jaiswal, 21, to Australia’s 25-year-old debutant Nathan McSweeney, Chappell pointed out the gulf in preparation and exposure, with Jaiswal already excelling at the highest level while McSweeney remains relatively inexperienced. He stated

“The young opener is fearless and appears poised to inherit the mantle of Indian batting excellence, following the likes of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Jaiswal’s journey encapsulates why India’s planning and infrastructure give them a clear edge in world cricket. The young left-hander moved to Mumbai at 10…… to realise his dream of representing India.”

The veteran coach attributed this disparity to India’s robust junior cricket program, which he believes is unrivalled globally. He widely appreciated Indian domestic cricket culture and remarked.

“India’s system prioritised long-form cricket at the youth level under Rahul Dravid’s leadership…..In contrast, Australia’s system limits opportunities for young cricketers, prioritising school commitments over competition during much of the year.”

Recalling his observations, Chappell remarked that India U-19 teams often dominate their counterparts to the extent that it feels like “men playing against boys.” He credited India’s cricketing infrastructure and strategic planning for consistently producing world-class talent, with Jaiswal emerging as the latest prodigy from this remarkable system.
