As anticipation builds for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, fans and players alike are sharing their views. Former cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has also chimed in, praising Virat Kohli as the finest captain in Test cricket and recognizing MS Dhoni as the ultimate leader in limited-overs formats, celebrated for his composed leadership and remarkable ICC tournament wins.

Kohli captained India in 68 Test matches, achieving 40 victories, 17 defeats, and 11 draws. A defining moment of his captaincy came with India’s historic series win in Australia during the 2018-19 season. Kohli is also India’s top-scoring Test captain, accumulating 5,864 runs over 113 innings at an impressive average of 54.80, including 20 centuries and 18 half-centuries.

In the statement, he said:

“Kohli’s attacking attitude is something that he himself enjoys and celebrates. You should show your emotions. You shouldn’t be like a machine on the ground. You should have an attitude like Sir Vivian Richards who would intimidate bowlers with his eyes. Kohli’s attackng attitude and Dhoni’s calm demeanor. For me, the red ball’s best captain is Virat and the white ball is MS Dhoni.”

Meanwhile, Dhoni’s leadership made a lasting mark in white-ball cricket, making him the only captain to secure all three ICC white-ball championships: the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 Cricket World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Additionally, he steered Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five IPL titles.
