Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, and Sarfaraz Khan in Contention for England Tour
Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, and Sarfaraz Khan are likely to be named in India’s Test squad for the upcoming England series. Nair impressed with 863 Ranji Trophy runs and a record 779 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The series starts June 20 at Headingley, with India aiming for their first Test series win in England since 2007.

With the BCCI working to resume IPL 2025 amid logistical hurdles, focus has also shifted to India’s squad selection for the upcoming Test series in England. Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, and Sarfaraz Khan are strong contenders for the squad, with the India A team set to be announced on May 13 and the senior Test squad on May 23.
Reports indicate Sudharsan and Nair may find spots in the main squad, while Sarfaraz, who made his debut last year, is also in line despite recent injury concerns. Karun Nair, who last played a Test in 2017, has revived his national hopes with a standout 2024–25 domestic season for Vidarbha. He was pivotal in their Ranji Trophy triumph, scoring 863 runs in 16 innings at an average of 53.93, including four centuries.
He was also the top scorer in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with 779 runs in 9 matches at a staggering average of 389.50, hitting five centuries. The five-match Test series will begin at Headingley on June 20, with subsequent matches at Birmingham, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval. India hasn’t won a Test series in England since 2007 and will aim to break that streak after falling short during the COVID-impacted 2021–22 tour.
